    The Dighton Community Church is celebrating 250 Years!

    *****  Three scheduled events have been postponed to later dates to be announced  *****
    1.  Stories of the American Revolution
    Date: TBD. The Dighton Community Church on Elm Street, Learn about the American Revolution in stories told by Cathy Potter, historian and re-enactor. She will tell some stories you may have heard and some you have not. This little Dighton church was in its infancy when the Revolution occurred, and it definitely played a role in the conflict AND in the founding of our nation. The talk is free of charge; donations graciously accepted. 2.  Providence Brigade Band & Dighton's Medal of Honor Ceremony Date: TBD.  Medal of Honor ceremony - a presentation to the Town of Dighton by the family of the medal winner, followed by refreshments and a Civil War brass band concert by the Providence Brigade Band. Free of charge - refreshments will be served. 3.  Militia Drill Day Date: TBD.  The afternoon will be filled with a MILITARY DRILL DAY by the colonial Militia. In addition to the actual drilling, there will be exhibit stations featuring weaponry, medicine, food of the battlefields and much more. There will be colonial games for the children to play. It will be a family day created around a living history lesson. Fun and learning for all. Colonial attire would be welcomed. If you have questions about making simple costumes, please let us know. Free of charge.               ***** To be determined as the date gets closer:  *****   July 4, 2020, the ninth (9th) Annual Re-reading of the Declaration of Independence will once again take place in the candle-lit church. This year's celebration is in the capable hands of the 13th Massachusetts re-enactors . Always free of charge. Times and information will be outlined in a flyer soon. NOTE: For those who expect to hear orator Patrick W. Menges again this year, Patrick will not be doing the reading. Folks from distant places in New England have come every year to hear him in the past, but he has decided to retire. A new excellent reader will take Patrick's place this year.
